Rick
Shaheen is among the small percentage of lawyers in Ontario
recognized by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a Certified
Specialist (Civil Litigation). The Law Society's Specialist
Certification Program assists members of the public and the legal
profession to identify lawyers who have met or exceeded
established standards of experience and knowledge and who have
maintained a high standard of professional practice.
Rick leads Nesbitt Coulter's civil litigation and
personal injury team and restricts his practise to serious personal injury
claims and insurance disputes, as well as insurance defence for a
variety of insurers. He is known for his energetic prosecution
and defence of motor vehicle, personal injury and insurance disputes.
Rick has extensive trial and appellate
experience but also appears before the Financial Services Commission
of Ontario as well as various Boards and Tribunals.
He is a long time member of The Advocates' Society and presently serves as a Director of that provincial organization. He is a member of the Oxford Law Association, London Claims
Association and the Brain Injury Association of London and Region. He
also served as the first lawyer elected to the Board of Directors of
the Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators.
Rick Shaheen received his Bachelor of Laws from the
University of
Western Ontario in 1983 after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from combined study
at the Universities of Western Ontario and Laval. Since his call to
the Bar in 1985, Rick has practised exclusively in various areas of
civil litigation. Rick is active in the community. He has been a member of many local
Boards and volunteer organizations and has a particular interest in the Woodstock Rotary Club as well as in international aid and development.
