Gregory J. Van Berkel
Gregory J. Van Berkel was raised in rural Southwestern Ontario. He completed a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree with a concentration in criminology at the University of Ottawa in 1992. He then attended law school at the University of Western Ontario, obtaining his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1996. Greg was called to the Ontario Bar in 1998.
Greg leads the civil litigation and personal injury team in Nesbitt Coulter LLP. He has focused his practice on serious personal injury claims and insurance disputes, as well as insurance defence matters for select local insurers.
Before joining the personal injury and insurance team at Nesbitt Coulter LLP in 2017, Greg practised primarily in the area of civil litigation in London, Ontario. He has hands-on experience in personal injury matters, including motor vehicle and accident benefits claims, for both plaintiffs and insurers. He also provides solution on insurance coverage and related disputes. Greg has been serving as an advocate for clients before all levels of court in Ontario. He has also appeared before numerous tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal, the Financial Service Commission of Ontario, and the Licence Appeals Tribunal.
Greg has regularly presented on legal and advocacy issues to various legal, insurance-related, and other organizations. He has also educated students about pursuing a legal career. Greg is a member of The Law Society of Ontario, the Oxford Law Association, and the Middlesex Law Association.
Greg gives primary importance to the local community. He has volunteered with numerous community groups, including minor sports organizations. He is actively involved with minor hockey. Motorcycles are a passion, and Greg is an avid on and off-road motorcyclist.
